This is a humorous video about anxiety I know you will enjoy watching and it is perfect for conveying some critical information about anxiety that I will talk about after the video.
Genuine mental illness is no laughing matter, I’ve had my own challenges with anxiety and the therapy that Bob Newhart is suggesting simply doesn’t work in most cases.
I wanted to share this video with you because there are so many people out there who have destructive and negative self-talk in their head like the lady Bob Newhart was talking to. Thoughts like:
“I’d like to be more successful, but I guess I don’t have what it takes” -STOP IT!
If that is what you believe then that is what you will create.
“I’ll never be able to lose weight” – STOP IT!
“I can’t seem to find happiness” -STOP IT!
You see, our outer world will always be a reflection of our inner world. Whatever we believe, and whatever we tell ourselves on an ongoing basis is exactly what we create in our outer world.
It’s simple cognitive behavior therapy, athletes and all highly successful people know this, understand and practice this.
Recognize the moment a negative thought enters your head and stop, deliberately replace it with a positive thought, positive self-talk, and the image that you want to create rather than what you don’t want to happen.
You are not your past, you are not all the times you messed up, that’s not you. You are a person who has learned from plenty of experiences, and if you learn and process these experiences correctly you will have a happier life.
If you hear someone you know starting negative destructive self-talk, consider saying STOP IT! Then explain these ideas to them.
